EDUCATIONAL HISTORY
"The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character -
THAT is the goal of true education."
-Martin Luther King, Jr.
Bachelor of Music, University of Nevada, Reno
August 2001 - May 2007
During my time at the University of Nevada, Reno I was able to perform with the University Orchestra and the University Wind Ensemble. Being an advocate for chamber music I founded the UNR Woodwind Quintet in 2005. By 2008 UNR had created a scholarship program for the UNR Woodwind Quintet and ended up forming a second group to accommodate the interest. I had the great opportunity to be a part of the Pride of the Sierra Marching Band performing on both clarinet and trombone. It was through the UNR Chamber Choir that I was able to travel to Germany when we went on tour in 2004 and was able to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York in 2007. All of these experiences helped shape the educator that I am today.
University of Kansas
Graduate work: 2007-2013
While at the University of Kansas I was able to study with one of the top pedagogues in bassoon. I moved to Kansas specifically to study with Eric Stomberg. I was able to perform with the University Wind Ensemble, which recorded with Naxos in 2009. I also performed with the University Pit Orchestra in The Music Man performing on clarinet, bass clarinet and bassoon.
Master of Music, University of Nevada, Las Vegas
August 2017 - May 2019
While studying at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas I was able to receive my teaching credentials to become a licensed teach with the Clark County School District. I was able to do my student teaching at the school I am currently teaching at, the Walter Johnson Academy of International studies. It was here where I fell in love with teaching orchestra.
Master of Education, Sierra Nevada University
January 2020 - May 2022 (Projected graduation)
During my time with Sierra Nevada University I was able to truly understand how the school system is set up and run. I was able to do my internship at the school where I work. Being able to learn different ways to deal with personalities and how to analyze data has helped me become a better teacher in the classroom. I am excited to continue to contribute to the climate and culture of our school to make a small difference for the people around me.
