Who are We?
The Johnson Academy Orchestra program consists of 270 students ranging 6th - 8th grade. There are four performing ensembles; beginning, intermediate, advanced and chamber. Our Chamber Orchestra is our only audition ensemble. They have the opportunity to compete throughout the year and they consistently get ratings of Superior and Excellent.

Instrument days
Our students have the opportunity to participate in instrument days each year. These are events put on by CCSD in partner with ASTA. Any CCSD student is invited to attend these events and they get to meet people from across CCSD who play the same instruments. It is a great opportunity for students to interact with people with their same interests, learn from new people and create lifelong friendships.
Partnership with the
Nevada School of the Arts
For the past two years our students have been lucky enough to have a paid strings coach come to our school every other week to work with them. Mr. Paul Firak is a bass and cello player who performs with the Las Vegas Philharmonic as well as other performing groups around the country. He is paid through a grant we have been lucky enough to receive through the NSA (Nevada School of the Arts)
Service in Action 2021-2022
One of the missions of the IB (International Baccalaureate) program is to serve the community. Our program helps students to become strong members of the community by giving back. Each year students participate in service projects of various types depending on their interests. Here are a couple that our orchestra students participated in this year.
Veteran's Day Concert
Each year our school invites a member from the US Military to come and speak to our students at an annual Veteran's Day Concert. This is a joint band, choir and orchestra concert designed to celebrate our United States Veterans. The guest speaks to our students about being of service to our community.
Saver's FunDrive
Our students collected clothing and small household items to donate to Savers Secondhand Store. Savers has a program where they give back to the schools based on the weight of the items collected. Our school collected a total of 2,597 pounds of goods that were donated to Savers.
